Living and working in Mariposa has been a wonderful experience. I am so glad my husband and I chose to move here.
With the help of a great Century 21 realtor, we found a beautiful house with a gorgeous view on a hill in Mariposa. We can see the mountains of Yosemite National Park to the east, the city of Mariposa to the south, and the San Joaquin Valley to the west.
We sold our small home in San Diego (1,175 square feet on a 40 foot lot) for $400,000 and bought this 2900 square foot house with 12.8 acres for $395,000. Over the years, my husband and I have bought and sold numerous rental homes and I have really enjoyed it. I ALSO WANTED MY SON (THEN IN MIDDLE SCHOOL) TO EXPERIENCE A "SMALL COUNTRY SCHOOL". I QUICKLY FOUND A BIG DIFFERENCE COMPARED TO THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY TOWN I LIVED FOR 30 YEARS. I FOUND NO GANGS, NO GRAFFITI AND WHAT A GOOD FEELING WALKING DOWNTOWN AND HAVING FRIENDS HONK AND WAVE. YOU REALLY DON'T NOTICE IT AT FIRST, BUT AFTER A WHILE YOU REALIZE THERE IS NO AIRPLANE OR TRAFFIC NOISE. ONLY THE OCCASSIONAL HELICOPTER AND SIREN OFF SOMEWHERE FOR A FIRE OR MEDICAL EMERGENCY. THE SIMPLE, HOMEY THINGS LIKE THE SOUND OF THE BELL RINGING AT THE HISTORICAL COURTHOUSE EVERY HOUR IS MUSIC TO MY EARS AND THE FACT THAT THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER ONLY COMES OUT ONCE A WEEK ARE PART OF THE FEELING OF STEPPING BACK IN TIME.
